HackNotts 2017 followed on from HackNotts 2016 and HackNotts 2015 and had 15 total submissions before the 24 hour deadline.

The project plan this time involved creating something simpler as for both previous years the projects spanned the entire 24 hour duration, leaving little time to socialise with other teams at the event. As a team of three we decided to create a webcam filter creator that allowed mixing and matching pre-built filters to create interesting and funny effects.

The project took around 12 hours to develop and adding filters to play around with added an extra 4-5 hours. We won second best project overall and went home with Raspberry Pi’s each.

List of the more interesting filters we added:

  • Swirl transformation
  • Circle transformation
  • Tunnel transformation
  • Thresholding / Colour stepping
  • Edge detection (Laplacian)

To show some of the interface, the right bar shows the current added filters and the option to add more. The top toolbar allows for loading and saving present filter groups and screenshots.
